Volunteering For Oakland is committed to supporting efforts that improve the health and well-being of our local community. Formally launched in the summer of 2013, VFO’s Healthcare Initiative has focused not only on raising awareness about Healthcare Reform across Alameda County, but also facilitating enrollment in ACA/Covered California.
In 2013 California’s health insurance Exchange, known as Covered California, began enrolling Californians in health insurance plan options. VFO is pledged to support Covered California outreach. To that end, our Volunteers have undergone training as Certified Educators, Agents and Enrollers to facilitate community access to Health Insurance, including MediCal.
Educating the community means we actively engage in tabling, presenting at local events, handing out literature, publicizing upcoming deadlines, and promoting the importance of affordable health insurance options.
Recent and Ongoing Events include:
- 2013-15 Open Enrollment : Our Enrollment Events enrolled 1,000 and Educated 1,500.
